Application & Schedule

Campground

At long last we can tell you about our Rally planned for Spring 2015! Due to some difficulty with securing a campground, we did not want to advertise it until that was finalized. We hope you will join us for a Rally featuring Philadelphia and the Brandywine Valley, with planned tours and several free days as well.

We will be staying at Roamer's Retreat Campground in Kinzers, PA. The discounted rates will be honored for days before and after the rally.

The park is near many interesting attractions, such as the Strasburg Railroad Museum, National Toy Train Museum, National Christmas Center, Kitchen Kettle Village, PA Fabric Outlet, Witmer Quilt Shop and more. There are some challenging golf courses in the area as well. We will send detailed information as the rally approaches.

We will enjoy a comedy together at the Rainbow Dinner Theater, located about 4 miles from the campground.

We will visit Valley Forge National Park, followed by a tour in Philadelphia. The tour will include the pre-Revolutionary area and other parts of the city, with a dinner at historic City Tavern. There are many museums and attractions to visit on the free days. Again we will send more information.

Then we are focusing on the history of the DuPont family. We will tour the original landholding of E.I. DuPont, who emigrated from France and established a gun powder mill along the Brandywine River in the early 19th century. We will see his home and gardens, as well as the original powder mill. We also will visit Winterthur mansion and gardens, the home of a DuPont descendent.

On a second day we will tour the Herrs Foods factory. This family business was established in the 1940s, selling only potato chips, and has grown into a significant producer of snack products distributed throughout the eastern US. There are free snacks at the end! And a sampling of fresh, hot salted potato chips right off the line- yum!

That afternoon we will visit Longwood Gardens, summer home of another DuPont scion. This will be a self-guided tour of the magnificent gardens and conservatory. We will have dinner at The Gables at Chadds Ford, a restaurant established in a converted dairy barn with a large banquet room we will have to ourselves. Philadelphia is the home of American Bandstand, so put on your dancing shoes. We will have a DJ playing oldies but goodies and an open bar for wine and beer (this is our treat, not included in the rally fee).

We hope many of you will be able to join us and enjoy these activities!
